Apple's answer to the clone makers at the bottom of the market: a Plus-class machine in the compact case at under a thousand dollars, with a ROM disc that would boot System 6 with no drive attached at all. Cheap, slow, and made in very large numbers, which makes it the easiest compact Mac to find and the least interesting to own.
