The Famicom redesigned to be sold in a country that had stopped buying consoles: a grey box styled like a video recorder, with a front loading slot and a lockout chip to control who could publish. It worked, and Nintendo owned the next decade. The loading mechanism is the notorious weak point — the pin connector wears and needs replacing.
