Sony's handheld: a widescreen LCD far beyond anything portable at the time, with games on proprietary UMD discs and a media player built in. Technically it beat the Nintendo DS comprehensively and lost on software. The homebrew scene that grew around its firmware exploits is much of its lasting reputation.
