The Atari 8-bit that sold: 64K, BASIC in ROM, the good chipset, and a price cut hard during the 1983 price war with Commodore. It is the most common of the line and the one most software assumes, which makes it the sensible starting point. The keyboard and the power supply are the usual weak spots.
