Nintendo Game Boy

Nintendo · 1989

Yokoi's lateral thinking made concrete: a deliberately cheap monochrome screen and an eight-bit processor, chosen so the batteries would last thirty hours and the thing could be sold at a price children could reach. It beat far better handheld hardware comprehensively and sold over a hundred million. The screens develop vertical line faults.
