Mattel Intellivision

Mattel's console, and the first to seriously challenge Atari: better graphics, a synthesised voice module, and a disc controller with a numeric keypad and overlays that people either loved or loathed. The advertising campaign comparing it directly to the 2600 was among the first of its kind. Sold three million and defined the first console war.
